When Idaho Helicopters, Inc. of Boise, ID approached us with the need for a new 4,400 gallon, DOT 406, Elliptical, Aluminum Fuel Tank to be mounted on a new International Chassis Day Cab, we stepped up to the plate and set forth to create a one-off tank to meet their needs. Our in-house engineering department and sales team designed the tank to integrate seamlessly with the customer provided chassis. We designed the tank to have features specific to what Idaho Helicopters, Inc. requested. The tank is sloped to the rear where the air operated internal valve and manifold system allow for filling from either side or discharge to other support vehicles if needed. There was even a request for a flat section on top of the tank for the operator to rest during extended field support while fighting forest fires and needing to be ready for a quick refuel operation regardless of the terrain or the time of day. The International Chassis/Cab was delivered to us as a blank slate and Superior Steel Products, Inc. was able to provide a turn-key solution for the customer. This helicopter fuel support vehicle is headed directly into the field to serve as the newest edition to the fleet of vehicles that Idaho Helicopters, Inc. employs throughout the Western U.S. on numerous contracts and emergency support jobs.
